What Causes Diarrhea While On Mycophenolate Mofetil?

I am being treated for myasthenia gravis for past 7 months. Have been taking 2000 MG of Mycophenolate Mofetil a day for 5 months. Just in past 3 weeks have had prolonged bouts of diarrhea, current bout is on going for 7 days. Saw my primary doctor on Thursday she thought I may have a stomach virus and to give it another week to resolve. Could I have developed this diarrhea as a side effect from Mycophenolate after 5 months?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The current diarrhea is surely due to the intake of Mycophenolate Mofetil giving side effect with altered gut flora homeostasis.

It can present at any time period since starting, so discuss with your doctor regarding the same to proceed further.

Currently, intake of probiotics as lactobacillus or else will support.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
