What Causes Diarrhea In An Infant?

I have a 4 month old baby.. He s been experiencing watery stools for the past days.. Maybe atleast 3 times a day.. So we had a stool exam for him .. Everything is normal except that it indicates few fat globules.. What does this mean? Is he having a malabsorption? Do i need to worry? He s teething by the way.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The diarrhea in New born and infant child mostly due to virus in most of the cases. So it can be viral gastroenteritis.

The virus cannot be detected in routine stool routine micro examination. The few fat globules can be seen normally for which no need to worry.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
