I am 40 days from my period. I am on birth control the iud for 10 years. I have been having brown discharge on and off for two weeks straight. I got the iud inserted after I had my daughter during my c-section. I got it checked two months after and it was still there. I have 7 months now with the iud. My question is what is wrong with me or what can it be?
IUD can prevent the pregnancy within the uterine cavity. It cannot prevent the pregnancy outside the uterine cavity (usually tube); i.e. ectopic pregnancy. Hence, if you have missed your period for about 10 days, please get your pregnancy test done on urine. If it is positive (it may be weak positive), the chances of ectopic pregnancy are very high. Laparoscopy then might be helpful in diagnosing and treating unruptured ectopic pregnancy.
Ectopic pregnancy cannot grow and is known to rupture when it becomes bleeding emergency requiring surgical intervention with many units of blood transfusion.
Please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP for timely diagnosis and treatment before you land into an emergency situation.
