I am currently on the contraceptive implant and I haven t had a period in nearly 4 years (due to various methods of contraception) in the last month I have had extremely bad pains in the left side of my lower abdomen and I passed a lot of blood on Friday for only a few hours. This morning I passed a jelly/mucus like substance that was dark in colour. Is this normal?
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Progesterone implant can lead to menstrual irregularities and delayed periods. This is due to hormonal disturbances in the body. However, it is not 100% efficacious, and I would advise you to get a urine pregnancy test done. If negative, then you should get yourself investigated for hormonal disturbances like hypothyroidism, hyperprolactemia or polycystic ovarian disease which can also lead to delay in periods.
