My granddaughter was 19 weeks + 5 days pregnant and is in an abusive relationship. Her boyfriend head butted her on Saturday, everything turned white and she got a severe headache. She tried to go to the hospital that night but he would not let her (he restrained her). Sunday she was still having symptoms and was not feeling quite right so she went to the hospital (he had left the premises by this time). An ultrasound was performed as part of her examination and the found that the baby had a tumor on its neck and was dead. She delivered the baby yesterday. Could the blow she took to her head near the right temple have caused the baby s death?
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. The blow on her head or temple is unlikely to cause the death of the fetus. Since you have mentioned that the fetus has tumour in its neck, which can be be present in chromosomal anomalies, genetic syndromes. It can be the cause of death of the fetus. Fetal karyotype should be done to assess the fetal karyotype. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Dr Deepti Verma
