What Causes Dark Spots In The Placenta?

I m 26 years old, 128 lbs and 17 weeks pregnant and had my second ultrasound today. My doctor said he saw dark spots, kind of like bubbles in the placenta. He said a few are normal but I have more than a few. He wants to see me again in 3 weeks. Should I be concerned? Is this dangerous?

Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
The black spots seen in the placenta are likely to be collected blood or placental lakes.
You should get your review ultrasound every3-4 weekly to detect any intrauterine growth restriction in fetus, as it can occur due to placental lakes.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
