What Causes Cramps After Abortion?

I'm a 25 year old, healthy female who had an abortion today. The doctor did a d&c. I was five weeks. All afternoon, I've been having pain/contractions/cramping on my right side. The cramping, I understand, is usual, but it's much more painful on the right side. Could there be a problem?

Hello dear,I understand your concern. In my opinion there might not be any problem.During the D&C all the products of conception will be evaluated. And the uterus tries to contract resulting pain.Usually in pregnancy there will be slight rotation of uterus to right side. So,the pain will be felt more on right side.Other wise nothing to worry.Take rest.Avoid physical strain.Even after D&C if the bleeding is prolonged then I suggest you to consult your doctor.
Best regards....Dr.Srilatha.
