Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Constant Burning In The Bottoms Of My Feet?
I have constant burning in the bottoms of my feet, bright red flesh. It is less intense when I am off my feet for a while. It is much worse when I wear shoes for any length of time. The burning also comes and goes in the palms of my hands, and at times under my tongue. This has been going on for about 6 weeks. My doctor believes it is neuropathy, but can t understand why, and if it is what can be done to fix?
Agreed, it sounds like neuropathy. To find the exact cause your would have to undergo a neuropathy screen. In some persons the cause is not found but testing should be done to see if a specific cause can be identified
Some of the common causes are:
(1) diabetes
(2) low levels of vitamin b12 or folate
(3) abnormal levels of vitamin b6
(4) liver or kidney disease
(5) autoimmune conditions such as lupus, RA
(6) infection
(7) exposure to toxins
(8) thyroid disease
Blood tests can be done to see if any of these are present.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
