What Causes Chronic Pharyngitis?

Hi, i have had a chronic pharyngitis problem for 2 months now with no other symptoms so i can not understand what is causing this. I even had an acid reflux therapy prescribed by an ENT just to be sure. I have only encountered this problem once 10 years ago. What could be causing it? Is there a therapy?

Hello,

Chronic pharyngitis may be due to:
1. Chronic tonsilitis
2. Sinusitis
3. Post nasal discharge
4. Nasal polyps
5. Acid reflux
6. Chronic allergies etc

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid allergens and allergic food that causes problems. Use tablet amoxicillin and clavulinic acid 625mg twice a day for five days. Use salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult an ENT specialist, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu, Internal Medicine Specialist
