What Causes Chronic Fatigue Along With Hot Flushes And Sweating?

Yes, I have been having severe outbreaks of hotness and sweat, then I sometimes turn sick at my stomach. I sometimes have weak spells, when I get so hot! I must get directly in front of a fan. I have also just had double knee replacements and am on warferin. I was doing this before surgery when i would get a shower. I have chronic fatigue and have been diagnosed wit fibromayalgia. I have psoriatic arthritus or osteos. I have been told both, not sure which!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history. Very rarely, there can be post menopausal hot flushes at this age. Usually they settle down by 2-3 years after menopause. Apart from that, I would like to rule out a thyroid disorder and few rare hormonal conditions. Does she have any flushing?

Carcinoid syndrome is rare, but can present with these symptoms at this age. It may be worthwhile doing a blood chromogranin - A level and a urine 5-HIAA test and a thyroid function test. Please discuss with your GP. They may not agree to do it (due to non familiarity with carcinoid syndrome) unless you persist.

If the above come back as negative, we may consider adding Pregabalin (Lyrica) to control hot flushes. She may also benefit with soya bean, YAm and other phytoestrogens. Evening Primrose oil and omega 3 capsules also may help.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
