What Causes Chronic Cough And Severe Fatigue While Treating Mycoplasma?
Hello,I was diagnosed with micro plasma about a week ago. I had been coughing (a lot and deeply) as well as extremely fatigued for about 12 days before that.I ve been on an antibiotic since then, with some symptom relief medication as well.Any thoughts on how to get better? Thanks, Beth
** Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern
1. Consult a chest specialist to exclude common but overlooked cause of chronic cough: atypical pneumonia caused by mycoplasma causing acute respiratory distress. 2. Since mycoplasma lacks cell wall thus antibiotics that targets cell wall synthesis does not work well in cases of mycoplasma infection [for obvious reason] although doxycylcine/minocycline are reported to be effective 3. Avoid cough suppressant, take acetaminophen for pain/fever and take plenty of fluids to help loosen secretions and phlegm and rest is advisable if fatigue is there, some may require hospitalization for oxygen and other breathing support [if needed] 4. to prevent further/future attacks frequent and thorough hand washing and not sharing food, drinking, eating utensils is ideal
