What Causes Choking Sensation In Throat?

I experience a choking sensation in my throat. It moves around to different locations and is very painful. If I get out of bed it usually stops. It happened a few months ago and then stopped. Now it has returned and I have had it for 2 nights this week. I am 75 years old and in excellent health. I am overweight, and have a small mitral valve leak, as well as a hypoactive thyroid. I take 3 grains of pure Armor thyroid (spelling?) I also take Furosemide 40Mg and Potassium Cl 10MEQ. I also take lots of vitamins and supplements.

Hello,

Probably you may be suffering from acid reflux with orophargial reflex. Due to this acid may be entering into larynx lead to choking sensation.

So elevate the head end of the bed use tablet pantaprazole before breakfast for one week.

Avoid spicy food and alcohol. If symptoms not improved please consult with your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
