What Causes Chest Pain While On A PICC?

Picc line in left arm during 3 week stay at health care facility. During that time, IV antibiotics were given every 3 hours. The IV bag would be dry for hours at a time and the nurses could not get blood from the PICC line. It was removed several days ago and chest pain persists. Could it possibly be a blood clot?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

A Blood clot could be less likely. A Chest x-ray should have been done after PICC insertion to see the position of it.

The Doctor must have done it. Therefore, chest pain is not due to that operation.

You may have gastritis or acid reflux which causes the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
