What Causes Chest Pain, Pressure Along With Shortness Of Breath?

I am having chest pain, pressure, short breath and have a myriad of tests to rule out gatro and heart issues, I am inclined to believe it is my lungs. I have had a chest xrays and CT scan and doctor says no cancer present. Does a CT scan always detect lung issues, such as cancer, or is there a special spiral CT scan that is better? I am a former heavy smoker and am told I just have anxiety issues, however the anxiety drugs are not helping my symptoms. Any advise you can give?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As you had already excluded heart and digestive issues, you are also a heavy smoker and the cause of your problems seems to be asthmatic bronchitis.

You should have investigations for lung functions/allergy screening test/x-ray chest/investigations to rule out chest infection to confirm the diagnosis followed by specific treatment. Please consult a chest physician for expert advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
