What Causes Chest Pain On The Left Side?

Hi I am 53 female. Have had a bad chest infection and now on antibiotics and a subutomol inhaler for the last 3 days. Last night I started to get pain in my left side , on side of my breast top of my breast and underneath. I have had pneumonia before together with blood clot but this was post op after a long surgery. It absolutely kills to cough and sharp pain when breathing in . Not sure whether I should go to A&E this evening or wait to see GP tomorrow?

hi mam, your chest pain is most probably due to lung infection.condition is called pleurisy I.e; the covering membranes of lung get inflamed leading to pain when coughing, deep breathing or sneezing.it is necessary to rule out the following conditions, which need immediate attention:
1)pleural effusion
2)emphysema
3)cardiac causes like angina,myocardial infarction
so,it’s better to go for an ECG and a chest x-ray to rule out the above causes.sometimes, pain might be due to muscle spasms/musculoskeletal in origin which is benign and analgesics would relieve it.but only after ruling out all of the above important causes,we can think of musculoskeletal.so,kindly go to ER and have the investigations done.you can upload me the results.hope your query is clarified.any further health issues, please do write to us.i’m always ready to address your concerns.wish you and your family a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year.thank you.take care.bye.
