Hello I have a question. I was diagnosed with a calestetomia in my left ear late last year and had surgery. Today I noticed a bump behind the same year and believe it is my lymphnoids swelling. I also have shingles and noticed I had a breakout could this be related?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Shingles is characterized by formation of painful vesicles in a particular dermatome. Dermatome is the segment of the skin supplied by a single nerve trunk. A single bump behind the ear is unlikely to be vesicles formed in shingles. The bump is probably a lymph node. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and relevant investigations. Aspiration cytology of the bump is required wherein cells are aspirated with the help of a needle, spread on a slide and stained with appropriate stains. This investigations will determine the site of origin and nature of the lesion thus helping in further management.
Thanks and take care DR Shailja Puri
