What Causes Brownish Discharge During Menstruation?

I have taken clomid for 2 cycles and was expecting to start my period on day 28-30 (which would have been 8-10 of Sept). I started spotting on the 9th, but only brownish spotting. Since then I have only been having brown discharge and not very much (1 liner is enough per day). The discharge is almost tar-like and smells like iron. I ve taken 2 pregnancy tests one on 8 Sept and one on 11 Sept. both were negative. I m supposed to take clomid on day 5-9 of my next cycle, but since I m only spotting, I m having a difficult time knowing if this is my menses or if I could have pregnancy tests that are not that sensitive.

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. I have gone through your query. In the current scenario, the best way is to get an estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres along with a sonogram of the pelvis preferably in the trans-vaginal route to know the status of the pelvic organs and also to confirm/exclude pregnancy. Further management can be planned accordingly. Hope this helps.
