Dear Ann, Brown discharge after an abortion is mostly the old blood that has been accumulated in the uterus and is now coming out. However, yeast like discharge is mostly due to the fungal infection. You could have contacted this infection during sexual encounter which now has flared up. Fungal infection causes white flaky curdy discharge which leads to inflammation of the vulva also along with vagina. Due to mixing of the blood, it has become brownish in colour. This causes immense itching. Later it may cause terminal burning during urination. Fungal vaginal infestation (Vaginal Monaliasis) can be effectively treated with anti-fungal creams (or in resistant cases oral medicines). Please put some lactobacilli preparation in the vagina for about a week to fortnight in addition to antifungal medicines. Lactobacilli create acidic medium in the vagina and also resist the fungi. This being a sexually transmitted infestation, please insist that your sexual partner also takes the simultaneous treatment. Till both of you are completely cured (as declared by your doctor) please observe absolute sexual abstinence.
