Hello,

You are having brown discharge after having unprotected sex with your partner. You took iPill within 3hrs of sex. Presently your pregnancy test is negative. I pill is a one time use pill (emergency contraceptive pill), it works best when it is taken within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse. If you have taken the pill correctly, you are not pregnant and you are having brown discharge due to hormonal imbalance, some have breakthrough bleeding.

Just side effects of the pill. If you develop symptoms of early pregnancy, you should get a repeat blood test done to detect pregnancy. You can also do a urine test or get clinically examined by a gynecologist to detect bulky uterus. If not pregnant you will be managed accordingly. Stay away from alcohol, smoking, drugs, etc. Avoid doing any heavy work. Stay at rest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

OB & GYN Specialist Dr. Richa Agarwal's  Response
Hi,

Menstrual irregularities in your case, could be due to hormonal imbalance caused by an iPill. As you took I pill on time there is almost no chance of pregnancy in your case. Abdominal pain with white discharge due to side effects of I pill, so no need to worry about it, some people are having withdrawal bleeding also due to sudden withdrawal of hormones from your body.

Next period is little unpredictable due to hormonal imbalance caused by I pill. Either it may come early or delayed by one week or so. So wait and watch for your menses, get your home urine pregnancy test after 7days of your missed period date to rule out pregnancy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Richa Agarwal, OBGYN
