What Causes Brown Spotting And Cramps Between Periods Occurs?

Hi I had my last period on Feb 6th-11th they usually last about 5 days and are pretty regular...I haven't had my period for this month yet and last week on march 3rd my husband and I had intercourse and right after I had what looked like I started my period when I wiped myself it was a little bit of bright red blood it was a but faded not at dark as normal period blood... So I figured I started than the next day there was nothing on my pad or when I wiped. I kept a pad the next few days and nothing but once in a while when I'd wipe there was super light pink on the toilet paper but it was not everyday and not every time I wiped! Til today the 11th not period and very scattered spotting. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and thus morning and both negative could I be pregnant? I've also had very light cramps that didn't last long at all..I don't know what to think.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It seems you had intercourse just three days prior to the expected menses. Usually, this period is far away from the fertile window. Hence the probability of conception due to this intercourse is very low.

Your pregnancy test also has reported negative. However, you have performed pregnancy test on day 5 of the missed period. I would advise you to perform the test again after 4 days. Alternatively you may perform Beta hCG test.

If the test(s) confirms that you are not pregnant, the delay could be due to stress of unwanted pregnancy. Take some progestational medicine like Deviry with the advise of your gynaecologist. Within 4 to 7 days, you would get withdrawal bleeding.

I hope this helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nishikant Shrotri
