What Causes Breathing Difficulty While Having IBS?
I was diagnosed with IBS 30+ years ago. In the past year I have developed shortness of breath. I feel it is associated with my IBS as I also feel bloated and miserable. Heart issues have been ruled out. My gastro doc says if it continues we can do additional testing. I try to eat well to avoid constipation but of course most of the food items i eat causes bloating. I don't like taking prescription meds due to the numerous side affects. What can I do?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Flatulent dyspepsia may cause pressure on the diaphragm, which in turn is causing you to have palpitations and shortness of breath. Moreover, people with IBS have certain level of anxiety that may lead to such symptoms.
Excercise for 30 minutes a day. Drink plenty of water. Keep stress at the minimum level. All will be fine.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Rana Ahsan Javed
