What Causes Breathing Difficulty At Night In Sleep?

Sometimes I have to wake up in the middle of the night because I can t breathe. When I sit up it gets better. Other times, it s when I am in crowded room that I get short breath and when I walk out I m all fine. It feels as though there is something blocking my throat and I can t breath properly. My family have history of asthma, and I m just wondering what I have problem breathing?

Thanks for your question on HCM.
Your symptoms like night time sudden breathlessness and relieved on sitting (orthopneoa) is typically seen in congestive cardiac failure and asthma.
So get done
1. ECG
2. 2d echo to rule out cardiac cause.
If both are normal than no need to worry much for cardiac cause.
Get done chest x ray and PFT (pulmonary function test) to rule out asthma.
If all of the above investigations are normal than no need to worry much.
You are having anxiety mostly. As anxiety can cause similar symptoms.
So avoid stress and tension. Be relax and calm.
Don't worry , you will be alright.
