What Causes Blood In Stool?

I am a 60 yo female. I have been having occasional episodes of bright red blood in my stools. It also burns when I use the restroom and feels like a tearing sensation. My PCP did a rectal exam and it was negative for hemorrhoids. She referred me to a GI dr for a colonoscopy. I am nervous that it may be Colon CA. What are the possibilities?

Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Negative rectal examination for hemorrhoids but still blood in stool can be due to the following reasons:
Mass or cancer in the rectum or distal colon.
Polyposis.
Ulceration.
Infection.
All this can be diagnosed y the following:
Tests of stool for three days.
Colonoscopy and biopsy is the best way.
CT scan of the abdomen.
Tests of blood.
All these things will give a definitive diagnosis and help to get the most proper management.
There are chances of cancer of the distal colon as your age is 60 but colonoscopy and CT scan will help to rule this out is most important and stress relieving so go ahead with colonoscopy asap.
