Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a sharp stabbing pain in my right groin area once in a while while standing. I have also experienced some bright blood in my stool on and off for over three years, only occurred a handful of times for only a few days. Don't know if they are related though.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Bleeding per-rectum and sharp pains in the right groin are usually not connected to each other. Both can have different reasons but occasionally can have same reasons. Per-rectal bleeding is most commonly caused by hemorrhoids and is painless. Bleeding due to fissure-in-ano is with pain. Other causes can be polyp and cancer, although cancer does not last so long. The pain in the right groin can be due to formation of a hernia in initial stages or colitis or muscle sprain. Ans this can be diagnosed by the following: Consult a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination, per-rectal digital examination and ano-proctoscopy. Examination of the groin area can find out the reasons. This way a correct diagnosis can be made and a proper treatment instituted.
