What Causes Bloating Of Abdomen After Quitting Smoking?

Hi there, I gave up smoking 6 weeks ago and whilst that is fine, the stomach problems I'm having aren't! I am now suffering with severe bloating even if I haven't eaten anything, infact I can wake up in the morning looking like I'm pregnant! I am now exercise a couple of times a week which I didn't do before and changed my diet to a healthier one. I am beside myself with the bloating as it actually hurts now, please help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Some advice that I can give you is:

- Use medication that contains Simethicone.
- Avoid chewing gum.
- Limit your intake of carbonated drinks.
- Avoid foods that cause gas, such vegetables in the cabbage family, dried beans, and lentils.
- Eat slowly and avoid drinking through a straw.
- Use lactose-free dairy products (if you are lactose intolerant).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
