What Causes Bleeding In The Second Trimester With Pain In Lower Abdomen?

Hi I am 29 years old and after 9 years pregnant with my second child. From age 3 to 7 I was treated for luekemia. My first pregnancy was very hard. I started heavy bleeding at 4 months and bled all the way threw do to low line placenta. Even though the baby was ok I was placed on bed rest and gave birth at 37 weeks . I am now 15 and 1/2 weeks pregnant and started bleeding at 12 weeks. At first it was bleeding with no pains. It would gush then brown spotting after a few hours. Over and over. but now I have pains in my lower abdomen, lower back, and private area. It goes from heavy to light spotting depending on how much moving I do. But my worry is my doctor does not seem to be worried about this. My HR is good. The cervics is fully closed and the placenta looks like it is in the right place. He has released me to full work. Which is 12 hour shifts on my feet running all night. Should I be worried? I can t seem to except is lack of worry to this. I just want to have a healthy baby girl.

Hello and thanks for the query,

I completely understand your concern.
The main causes of bleeding are threatened abortion and low lying placenta. Premature separation of placenta can also lead to bleeding. Vasa previa are blood vessels passing over the cervix that cause fresh bleeding. They may be detected by doppler. Other causes are cervical erosions and polyps. These can be detected only after visual examination of the cervix by a doctor.

I suggest that you have a second opinion from some other consultant and get yourself examined as well as a repeat ultrasound to look for placental separation, vasa previa.
After this you will be in a better position to take a decision.

I understand your situation. Take rest and also start progesterone to help prevent abortion. You will be alright.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Thanks for using HCM.
