Hello Doctor, My wife is in 33 week of her pregnancy. Today we spotted a little drops amniotic fluid leak, but not much. Could please tell us the reason for this and is there any emergency? We had doctor visit just two days back and have been told everything normal. However there is slight decrease in amniotic fluid compared to end of the 7 months. Appreciate your help!!!

Hello and welcome.

The fluid you are seeing exiting the vagina is not amniotic fluid. But if at all there were investigations that reported a reduced amount of amniotic fluid the causes can be various. Some of them are: infections, intrauterine growth retardation, fetal anomalies, dehydration, etc. Please report to your doctor for a more elaborate evaluation and treatment if required.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
