What Causes Air Pocket Around Heart After Tear In Esophagus?

My nephew has an air pocket near his heart caused by a small tear in his esophagus from incubation. He is slowly being weened from the incubation. Is this going to be a serious complication? Again, doctors are watching the air pocket and the tear was very small.

thanks for contacting us. These are mostly treated conservatively with out any surgery if the leak is very small. most of the times they heal well if no other issues. some times infection is difficult to deal with in these senario which can affect the progress. watch for fevers and infections.
