Hi,I am Dr. Radhakrishna (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abdominal Spasm With A History Of Colon Surgery?
I have abdominal spasms in upper right quadrant at times. so severe at times I have to take hycosamine. I have had a gastric sleeve surgery one year ago and before that I had lap band for 7 years. I have also had resection of small bowel 13 years ago due to scar tissue from C-sections and hysterectomy. I get nauseated with vomiting at times. diarrhea a lot of the time since colon surgery. do you think this could be gallbladder or colon? I am a LPN and work in a drs office so I know about both and am afraid it may be colon. Have any suggestions?
Hi ! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
Although it would not be wise to opine on your condition without a general physical examination of yours, with the history of multiple surgeries, one could have the suspicion of intermittent sub acute intestinal obstruction causing intermittent spasmodic pain, due to adhesion of part of the small gut to the scar inside of the abdominal wall at the suture sites. If I were your doctor, I might consider a diagnostic laparoscopy of your abdomen, which could also be therapeutic depending on the severity of the condition. I would at the end advise you to get yourself assessed by a general surgeon to arrive at a proper diagnosis and appropriate management.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts. Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
