What Causes Abdominal Pain, Nausea And Vomiting?

My daughter was seen in the ER last sunday with severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. They diagnosed her with gastroenteritis and sent her home. Today she has 101.5 temp pulse is 115. she is pale, still has abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. She has had a 30 lb wt loss in the past 6 months, irregular periods and is on birth control, her bowels have not moved since last friday but is passing gas. They did a CT scan and ultrasound but said they were normal and her labs and UA were normal. 2 years ago she had a jejunal intussusseption that resolved on its own. What could possibly be her problem. Every Dr. keeps saying there is nothing wrong with her

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting with nausea could have many causes which are acute gastritis, gastric ulcer or Helicobacter pylori infection or food allergy or stress.

Your daughter should undergo routine blood investigations and H.pylori, liver function tests, urinalysis and stool for blood, abdominal ultrasound and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to detect the underlying cause.

Treatment is mainly depend on the cause but she may take symptommatic treatment meanwhile.

Antacids like h2 blockers (ranitidine) or proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole or rabeprazole) will help to reduce excess acid production in stomach.

One can also take digene gel or liquid or ulcero-protective agents like sucralfate or bismuth subsallicylate to reduce the burning sensation.

Apart from medications she should eat plain foods like boiled rice and green leafy vegetables without adding spices or oil. It will help to neutriluze digestive acids and also they are easily digestible means there will be no need of extra stomach acid.avoid oily, spicy and fast food

Consult gastroenterologist for detailed medical history and clinical examination to diagnose the cause.

Thanks and Regards,
