What Causes Abdominal Distension?

I had surgery 3 years ago and immediately the next day anything I eat or drink makes my stomach swell.\The doctor put me on 2 exlax every day so I want explain what that did. My problem every doctor I see can not seem to find anything. I have to have a pad on me every day. The swelling has dropped and I have had a bladder infection for six months. I feel the swelling is the reason. I am getting very depressed because I cant seem to find any help.
