Hello,

I can understand your concern. Polycystic ovarian disease occurs due to imbalance of sex hormones in a female body. As these hormones regulate the normal ovulation and menstrual cycles, imbalance of them make menstrual cycles irregular.

It is a very common disorder found in women and it is very effectively treated with Metformin and/or birth control pills depending on if you are planning to conceive in near future.

I would advise you to take an appointment of a gynecologist and go for blood tests to determine hormone levels in your blood and for an ultrasonography to ascertain the stage of ovulation.

Based on the test results, treatment can be prescribed to you. If you take medicines regularly for few months, your ovulation and menstrual cycles will return to normal. Your distended stomach will be cured, too. I would advise regular exercises though as polycystic ovaries and obesity are very closely related to each other.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for trusting HCM. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
