What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Bloating Post Intake Of Atenolol?
I had an afib attack last evening and took 1 pill of atenolol 25ml. Today I have a lot of stomach cramps and bloating, is this a side effect of the medicine? I only take the pill when I really need to. I get a 5-10 episodes of afib a year. I also feel uneasy and a little out of it. -Tom
All medications have potential side effects but bloating and cramps are not known side effects of atenolol.
Bloating and stomach cramps can occur due to different possible causes such as: (a) food intolerance- it is possible that it may be related to one or more foods that you used (b)reflux (c)use of gas producing foods such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brusel sprouts, beans, turnips (d)constipation (e) lactose intolerance (f)infection
You can try agents such as peptobismol, pepcid or zantac to see if one of these would help but if the discomfort is not bearable, it would be best to see your doctor for assessment and treatment.
I hope this helps
