What Causes A White Coating In The Stools?

My husband 69, is type 2 diabetic. Has had 2nd GERD episode, most recent much worse than first. Seen by Dr, has take 4 (1/day) doses prilosec, & mylanta between meals. He is eating very little & carefully. He sleeps (naps) on & off all day & night. His most recent stool had a white coating on it. Should ha be so tired? What could the white on his stool be ? He has not cked his sugar in weeks. Thank you.

Geriatrics Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. White coating on stools could be due to increased mucus secretion. Additionally certain antacids also color the stools. Take proton pump inhibhitors along with domperidone to reduce GERD episodes.
2. Increase fiber in diet.
3. Add yoghurt or other probiotics to diet.
4. Check HbA1C levels. Glucose control needs to be well in control to avoid any complications.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
