What Causes A Tender Spot On The Outside Of The Throat?

I have a tender spot on the outside of my throat, just left of center. My throat is not sore on the inside at all. I have no swelling or visible signs. I recently recovered from a bad cold and have no signs of the cold anymore except for my right ear feels slightly clogged. I m curious if the sore spot is caused by an irritated lymph node caused by a secondary infection. Does this require antibiotics or can my body fight it off alone?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The pain on the left side of neck is most probably due to inflammation of thyroid cartilage or thyroid bone
- This can be due to a lymph node or muscular
- Bad cold has given you inflammation inside the middle ear cavity by inflammation through Eustachian tube

I would advise you the following:
- Consult your Doctor for an actual examination on the outside of neck, ears and throat
- You will be prescribed proper anti-inflammatory medicine, decongestant and antibiotic if required
- Take plenty of oral fluids
- Take bed rest for early recovery

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
