What Causes A Purple Colored Bruise On The Foot?

I have what appears to be a bruise below my 3rd and 4th toe onmy right foot but I am not sure if that is what it is. It first started out blue and now it is a purplish color. What I would like to know is this: Is what I have a bruise or a busted vein?

Hi there,

It really could be either - a bruise or busted vein (hematoma). The good news is that this is really nothing to worry about. Bruises and even busted veins are very common, and the treatment is warm compresses and compression. This should self resolve within a few days to weeks, and usually is not indicative of any serious problems.
