What Causes A Low Resting Heart Rate?

I have a low resting heart rate. I always have. I swim a half mile 4-5 times per week. I wore a Holter monitor and I was told my resting heart rate averaged 43-44. I am 68 and at a good weight for my height. I eat healthy. How can you tell if I would need a pacemaker or I am just healthy? I have no symptoms.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

No need to have any pace maker its normal for your body type and activity. Athletes usually have a very low heart rate and is nothing to worry about. Do visit your physician for regular health check up and monitor your blood pressure levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohd Awais Ilyas
