What Causes A High Blood Sugar Level?

DEAR DOCTOR I AM A 83 YEAR OLD CAUCASIAN LADY IN GOOD HEALTH .. I AM 5 FEET TALL, WEIGH 209 POUNDS AND AM NOT INTO EXERCISING AND COME FROM SENIOR DIABETIC PARENTS .. MY TWIN BROTHER CAME DOWN WITH DIABITIS APP: 12 YEARS AGO .. MY RECENT A1C IS 6.1 .. I TAKE MY BLOOD FASTING SUGAR EVERY MORNING UPON ARISING IN THE MORNING BEFORE EATING AND THIS MORNING IT WAS 133 .. HOWEVER IT HAS IN THE RECENT PASS BEEN AROUND 123 AND LOWER .. I HAVE IN THE PAST WEEK BEEN STAYING AWAY FROM SUGAR SO WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN IS IT GOING UP TO 133 ?? I WOULD APPRECIATE HEARING FROM YOU , THANK YOU , GLORIA CRAIG

Dear Madam,
I understand your concern. My opinion is get a glucose tolerance test done once in 6 months and forget daily checking sugars. Glucose tolerance test will exactly tell you the stage (Normal or prediabetic or diabetic). one abnormal value should not alarm you. Most patient go in prediabetic stage for years. SO relax and get a GTT done and we are always there to guide you..
