I have had a urine analysis and the RBC count was first in the 10-20 range. I had it re-tested a few weeks later and it dropped to a 5 count. Do I need to have a cysto to see what is causing it. I did have a full adominal and pelvis cat scan and the results were all normal. Please advise.

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your clinical history and query, my opinion is as follows: 1. RBC in urine usually suggest damage to blood vessel due to stone or tumor or inflammation. 2. Reducing RBC count along with normal scan suggests, the inflammation is reducing and there is no stone or tumor 3. No need for cystoscope as it is dropping. Look for WBC or bacteria in urine microscopy, , if present urinary tract infection could be the cause.
Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
