What Causes A Breast Lump In A Child?

My 11 year old daughter called me up to her bedroom tonight as she has noticed that one of her breasts has a tender lump roughly the size of a squashed malteser. The other breast is totally flat and pain free. I am pretty sure that this is probably just the start of puberty but should I just assume this or get it checked?

Hello
Tender lump in breast in this age group is usually due change in hormonal levels and this is a benign condition.
I think you also know about this. What you need is to assure your child about its benign and self limiting course to relieve her anxiety and keep it in close observation if there is significant increase in size, increase in pain, if there is any discharge or there is any swelling in axilla.
If you find any of these consult your doctor for further evaluation.
Regards
