What Casues Infection Around A Surgical Scar?

I have a 10-in 35-year old scar from a colon resection. (perforated Crohn s). The Crohn s came back 10-yrs ago. I am on weekly injectable Methotrexate. My scar has started weeping in a couple of spots (where we had slowed healing to allow drainage. Say 2.5in. of the scar is red, weeping, irritated ... not pussy, not blood, not open ... but wrong , moist ... painful to touch. Thoughts?

Hi,

In my opinion, you should get done culture and sensitivity report of fluid oozing from Scar. Culture report will isolate the causative organism and sensitivity report will guide effective antibiotic treatment.

Oozing and tenderness (pain on touching) are suggestive of infection. So better to control it in an early stage by guiding effective antibiotic treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
