What Are The Withdrawal Side Effects Of Buprenorphine?

Yes I have idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and was prescribed buprenorphine 8mg tab, sublingually due to taking 30mg morphine 90 a month and 30mg oxycodone 180 a month with suicidal thoughts was hospitalized and released 9 days ago, I have one dose left of the buprenorphine for morning and dont see a doctor till Monday morning at 10.30 am, what is going to happen now? Will I experience withdrawals from the pain medication that I have been on for 9 months? and/or the buprenorphine as well? Cause I am very worried now. Would appreciate a reply as soon as possible. Thank you. Randy Velarde

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Don't be in panic , as it will aggravate the condition due to psychogenic effects.
As you mentioned that you are having a dose .8 mg ( you mentioned that it is 8 mg ) .
The normal dose is 0.2-0.4 mg sublingually every 8 hours .
So reduce the dose HALF and take it after 12 hours and be confident and you will not feel any pain and withdrawal syndrome .
Buprenorphin is a weak antagonist at the kappa receptors and does not PRECIPITATE acute withdrawal symptoms in morphine and oxycodone addicts .
Hope this will be useful for you.
