What Are The Uses And Side Effects Of Azithromycin?

Hi i have a question re: Azithromycin. My pt instead of taking 1 tab a day took 2 tabs a day. Would there be a big problem with that? By the way when he did that he had this feeling of redness on his face and feeling hot and that is just his face. Now 2 days after he did that he d been going to the bathroom. Is ther anything that i really need to worry about it?

Hi XXXX,

Thank you for your question. I read it carefully, and I think I may need some more information about it.
Was the tablet 250 mg, or 500mg? Then, did the patient took 2 tablets a day for 1 day, or all the days of the cure which means if he has taken it for 5 day...10 tablets of 500mg/250mg in total? Patient weight may help also.

Most common side effects of Azithromycin are stomach get upset, dizziness, headache, pain in the joints, disturbances in taste and vision, and others less common ones.

--I have had patients who have had single dose of 2 gr at once, and those who have had trouble usually have ended vomiting it out and having diarrhea.
--Not aware that exist an antidote in case of overdose of it.
--It will take approximately 136 hours for the body to eliminate it from the system, so if that time had passed, I don't think you should be worried.
--The side effects from it, should resolve once its eliminated.

Hope that helps,
Regards,
Dr. Klarida
