What Are The Symptoms Of Typhoid?

I recently traveled overseas, I have been feeling sick/not well for approximately a week. I'm not sure weather I just have some type of stomach bug/virus or something more serious. I recently looked up symptoms of typhoid and I have several of them. One question I have is if you have Typhoid Fever does the fever remain constant or can it come and go?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

Typhoid comes with a wide range of symptoms, all of which may not be present in a single individual.
Fever in typhoid does not remain constant, it keeps on increasing persistently like the steps of a ladder. Hence called step-ladder pyrexia.

In case of other viral infections, fever may be either continuous or intermittent type.
So, it will be better to consult your General Physician for a proper clinical examination.
Symptomatic relief can be obtained with Paracetamol 500 mg (to be taken after meals)
As your fever is persisting for approx a week, you need to get certain investigations like complete blood count, Urine examination, Widal test for typhoid, peripheral smear for malaria parasite & Dengue check.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
