Can I Swallow Pills With Food?

i just took a typhoid vaccine pill...2.5 hrs after i ate, followed with a glass of lukewarm water. I have trouble swallowing pills with water, so I chewed up a tortilla chip first and swallowed it with the pill. .... but now I think I wasn t supposed to be eating anything at all. Is this going to be a problem if I eat a little something to help swallow for the other three pills?

Hi,

It is generally recommended to take medication on an empty stomach or with a small amount of food unless otherwise instructed by your healthcare provider or pharmacist. This is because some medications can be affected by the presence of food in the stomach and may not be absorbed properly or may interact with certain nutrients in the food.

In the case of the typhoid vaccine pill, it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach, at least one hour before or two hours after a meal, as food can reduce its effectiveness. However, taking it with a small amount of food or water, such as a tortilla chip and a glass of water, is unlikely to significantly affect its efficacy.

If you have difficulty swallowing pills with water, you may try taking them with a small amount of food that is easy to swallow, such as applesauce, yogurt, or pudding, as long as it is not contraindicated for the medication you are taking. However, it is always best to check with your healthcare provider or pharmacist for specific instructions on how to take your medication to ensure its effectiveness and safety.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
