What Are The Symptoms Of Panic Attacks?

When I was in Vegas almost 2 weeks ago I was laying out in the sun for about and hour when I started to feel as though I was going to faint; my heart began racing and my hands started shaking. I immediately started hydrating myself but that did not work so I went inside. After a little while I felt better and went about my day. The next day I attempted at laying out one more time but the same feeling started to come over me. After those times I stopped laying out in the direct sun and continued to enjoy my vacation. I stopped having these episodes . On the day I returned I went food shopping with my husband when I began feeling an episode come along. I told my husband I needed to get out of there because I felt like I was going to faint. I went home, laid in my bed and began to hydrate myself once again. The next day I called out sick from work and went to the Urgent Care where I live to see a doctor immediately. The doctor did an EKG on me as well as blood work but could not find anything. He did state that on my EKG there was a line that was a little off but that it could be normal for me. It did not cause him much concern but he did state to follow-up with a Cariologist which I will do so. Since that point which was a week ago exactly, I have felt slightly better but not 100%. I do not feel the way I normally do. I ve had a couple of instances were I feel like I m about to have an episodes but kind of talk myself through it. A couple of people have told me that I am suffering from panic attacks. The two people that told me this are people that suffered from them and know first hand. Funny thing is my husband thought the same thing. Could this be what I am feeling?

Hi ,
I have read your query ,
Firstly , the symptoms of a panic attack could be ,
Shortness of breath,
Heart palpitations( a racing heart )
Chest pain or discomfort
Trembling or shaking
Choking feeling
Feeling unreal or detached from your surroundings
Sweating
Nausea or upset stomach
Feeling dizzy, light-headed, or faint,

In your case many symptoms fit into the scenario of a panic attack , but without a physical check up , I cannot qualify it , yet if it is so panic attacks or disorders are treatable , through medications and other procedures .

I would suggest you to visit a cardiologist , to rule out any heart related problems , because there can be many differentials for same symptoms.

Wishing you a good health,

Dr.G.Gayatri Devi
