What Are The Side Effects Of Contraceptive Pills?

Hi doctor I need help asking about the contraceptive pill I m on. My doctor that I see said it was ok fore to take it consecutivly for 2 months then have a break then restart for 2 months. However I was supposed to be on my period last week but obviously never came on where I kept taking the pill, now that it is the following week I am still having the odd belly ache like I normally would the week of my period and last week I was extreamly bloated however it seems to have gone down a lot now. I am sexually active and did have sex during the past 2 months I m adamant that I m not pregnant as I ve had none if the signed however is it something to be concerned about me still having the belly aches? And is it ok for me to take the pill consecutivly for 2 months? I am taking the levest pill in the UK and looked online and other users said they are having side effects such as bloatedness, nausea and stomach cramps.. Could the pill be the reason this is happening? Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Oral contraceptive pills are commonly used method of contraception and ensures 99% protection against pregnancy when the schedule for its intake is followed correctly.
You can take the pills as long as you desire and you should get back to fertility once you discontinue the use of the pills.
Common birth control pill side effects include: Inter-menstrual spotting, Nausea, Breast tenderness, Headache, Weight gain, Mood changes, Missed periods and Decreased libido.
Most of the side effects are temporary and does not require any assistance. You need to seek medical attention promptly if any of the side effects becomes intolerable and bothersome.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
