What Are The Normal Sugar Levels?

HI, I am 30 years old.. My mother is a diabetic since 1999, my grandmom was also a diabetic.. I just checked my blood sugar level today, random.. and it was 234 mg/dL the first time.. an hour later 228, and two hours later 222. Do I need to immediately go for a laboratory blood sugar level check, fasting?

Thank you for the query.
As per the history, you are 30 yrs old (gender not mentioned), with a family history of diabetes (mother and grandmother), and presently with raised blood sugar levels. I would like to know whether you have any associated condition like hypertension, dyslipidemia or obesity (which can aggravate the condition).
I would recommend you to go for some investigations as soon possible which should comprise of Fasting blood sugar (FBS), 2hrs Post prandial blood sugar (PPBS) and HbAic levels. These can give you a complete information regarding your blood sugar profile. Random blood sugar levels can cause false alarm at times. Usually, if your FBS is more than or equal to 126 mg%, 2hrs PPBS is more than or equal to 200mg% and HbAic is more than 6.5%, you may be diagnosed to have diabetes mellitus. You can also go for self monitoring of blood glucose levels, to keep an account of your blood sugar levels (but after consulting your physician).
Please consult your physician for a check up and further information.

Hope this helps you out.
Regards,
Dr. Ayusmati Thakur
