i did not show fetal pole or fetal heart beat on my u/s at 6.5 weeks... but there was a gestational sac(measuring 18mm mean sac diameter) and yolk sac also (5.1mm).. they have asked me to again come for u/s a week after.. is this normal what are the chances i will sustain this pregnancy...
Fetal pole, a thick spot near the yolk sac, is the term used for the earliest signs of a baby in an early pregnancy ultrasound before the baby has formed a recognizable human shape. With a transvaginal ultrasound, the fetal pole becomes visible around 6 weeks of gestation.
It should have been visible by now, but in few cases it may be visible bit late. Repeat ultrasound which your doctor has adviced after few days is done and if still not visible it may indicate a miscarriage. Although miscarriage is one possibility, a small error in dating the pregnancy can throw that off because the early pregnancy development varies so much from one day to the next.
Hope for the best
