What Are The Chances Of Survival From Lung Cancer?

Hello. I just found out that a friend of mine has lung cancer. And starts her treat in two days and will have treatment each day for 15 days straight. She is 84 years old. I've heard that most people don't live long with lung cancer. iI am driving up to see her today at the nursing home, which is 2 hours away. What do I say? Is it okay to ask her questions about how they found the cancer. I want to thank her too for all the wonderful things she has helped me with through the past 15 yrs. This lady has been like a 2nd mother to me. She was my mother's best friend. Lost my mom 12 yrs ago.

Average survival time from stage 4 lung cancer is only around 6 to 9 months.
At her age aim of treatment should only be basic supportive care.
Oral chemotherapy tablets in the form of erlotinib and crizotinib can be tried as palliative chemotherapy if EGFR and ALK mutation tests are positive in her biopsy sample
